Grand Opening of SK tes' Battery Recycling Facility in Rotterdam

We proudly hosted the grand opening ceremony of its new state-of-the-art battery recycling facility in Rotterdam. The event marked a significant milestone in the company's commitment to advancing sustainable solutions in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. 

The ceremony was attended by colleagues, customers from the automotive industry, journalists, and VIPs, all of whom gathered to celebrate this pioneering step towards a more sustainable future. 

Dr. Kerstin Lichtenvort, Batteries Team Leader at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment, delivered an insightful speech on the pivotal role of EV battery recycling in advancing the European Green Deal and sustainability goals. She highlighted how initiatives like SK tes' new facility are crucial for Europe's environmental objectives. 

Nico Van Dooren, Director of New Business at the Port of Rotterdam, spoke about the shared vision between the port and SK tes. He emphasized the Port of Rotterdam's support for SK tes and how the facility aligns with its mission for sustainable business practices. 

Mrs. Hyejeong Ahn, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul-General from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, addressed the audience on the challenges associated with the energy transition in Europe. Her remarks provided a broader context for the importance of innovation and collaboration in overcoming these hurdles. 

Jae Yeon Cho highlighted the leadership at SK ecoplant, noting their critical innovations and ongoing support for SK tes as it expands its footprint in the battery recycling industry. His comments reaffirmed the company's dedication to environmental stewardship and technological advancement. 

Thomas Holberg closed the speeches with reflections on the challenges faced in bringing the new facility to fruition. He celebrated the launch, underscoring what it means for the future of the EV industry and SK tes' role in driving sustainable progress. 

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by distinguished leaders including John Oh, Chief Strategy Officer of SK tes, Thomas Holberg, Chief Operating Officer of SK tes, Jae Yeon Cho, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of SK ecoplant, Terence Ng, Chief Executive Officer at SK tes, and Nivar Fuchs, Managing Director of SK tes Battery Solutions in Rotterdam. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort and strategic vision driving SK tes forward.
