SK tes has made significant investments in people, systems, and new technologies to transform its business into a global circular economy leader in sustainable technology services, helping its clients manage the commissioning, deployment, retirement, and recycling of its electronic and telecom equipment. SK tes has also invested in becoming a leading recycler of lithium-ion batteries.
The company’s flagship facility in Singapore, SK tes B, can recycle up to 14 metric tons of lithium ion batteries a day. Using a proprietary hydrometallurgical process, a recovery rate in excess of 95% and a purity level yield of almost 99% have been achieved, delivering a safe, low-capital, and low-energy footprint that is partially powered by solar panels and a 1 megawatt per hour energy storage system.
The company is building on its existing global network of recycling facilities in Grenoble, France, Singapore, and, more recently, the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. A new site in Shanghai, due to be commissioned by the end of this year, will use the same proprietary hydrometallurgy technology, with the Shanghai facility serving as a springboard for the development of a much larger site in northern China over the next two years.
SK tes has also recently joined the United Nations Global Compact to advance sustainable development.
